Clyde Farm is located along Silver Street, Godmanchester and is set within 24 acres of flat arable land surrounded by a continuous mature hedge and tree boundary. The site ceased to function as a working farm in 1995 and has since been progressively planted with 2500 trees (mainly native species).
MKA was approached to design a new dwelling on the site after the existing farmhouse burnt down in December 2008. The design of the new dwelling is environmentally responsive and North-South orientated. It’s sitting draws from the positive attributes of the existing site and is located at the natural juxtaposition of the existing landscaped visas. Thus, allowing the occupants to better enjoy their landscape.
The main dwelling entrance is located, on site arrival, to prevent any ambiguity with a new driveway being constructed from the existing site access gates. A new natural lake has been constructed to the south of the new dwelling which also acts as an attenuation pond and closed loop heat exchanger.
The dwelling has a highly thermally efficient & airtight external fabric, high thermal mass, high levels of natural daylight throughout, heat recover ventilated & Ground Source Heat Pump underfloor heated.
MKA designed the dwelling but weren’t involved in the construction phase where unfortunately significant design changes were made.
