MKA specialise in designing environmentally conscious, innovative and contemporary architecture. We use the latest construction methods and technologies to produce climate responsive high-quality buildings to enhance people’s lives. We are a small award-winning RIBA practice with a leading reputation for designing low to zero energy buildings and spaces for end-user clients.
We instinctively address sustainability and energy efficiency whilst ensuring any piece of architecture successfully integrates into its build environment. Each project is unique and time is taken to thoroughly understand a client’s requirements before design development commences. The resultant architectural solution involves a layered process which embodies practice principles with project-specific studies and research.
MKA are a Chartered RIBA Practice and Association for Environmental Conscious Building (AECB), Green Register of Construction Professionals and Affiliated CIBSE members.

MKA look to create architecture which improves people’s lives and their environments.
We look to work with like-minded clients and developers. The ethos on which a proposed project is based, regardless of size, is of primary importance. The objective being to produce, through good design, an architectural contribution to the built environment which has the lowest environmental footprint possible.
We firmly believe and have a track record that demonstrates that good quality design adds value.

Mark Kingsley’s experience started on site as a Bricklayer and Site Manager before becoming an Architect. We remain as committed as ever to designing contemporary environmentally responsive architectural solutions.
Sustainability and environmental issues have become more main-stream now than when MKA was formed in 2004. Then we were among a small group of UK architect’s practices who pioneered environmentally responsive design based on research carried out and scientific & technical data provided by The Association for Environment Conscious Building (AECB), The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT), The Building Research Establishment (BRE). Now our knowledge and experience of environmental design is extensive.
To date, we have designed and delivered 12 environmental benchmarked buildings, including 2 x Zero Energy Developments (ZED), 5 x AECB CarbonLite Silver and 1 x UK Passivhaus. In 2008, Somerset Earth Science Centre was one of the first UK certified Zero Energy Developments. In 2009, Tristram Ecohouse was one of the first dwellings to achieve the AECB CarbonLite Silver Standard.
MKA collaborate with other architectural practices, designers, builders, engineers and construction professionals on a wide variety of projects. Our role varies with each commission from lead designers, concept designers, environmental designers and consultants.
MKA is supported by a network of fellow professionals and specialist consultants whose complementary skills support the success of each project.
